Support Of Underground Excavations In Hard Rock
:This manual is for use in the design of excavations and support mechanisms for underground structures. The safe and economical construction of tunnels, underground mining excavations and underground power caverns depends upon a large number of factors, one of which is the correct choice of support systems to ensure that the excavations remain stable. These support systems, which may include rockbolts, grouted cables, shotcrete and other types of reinforcement, need to be matched to the characteristics of the rock mass, the excavation techniques used and to the required performance of the excavations. The book deals with the investigations required to establish support requirements, with the methods which are used to design support systems and with many of the practical details of correct support installation. Reference is made to the computer programs: Dips, Phases and Unwedge. A comprehensive list of references on all aspects of rock support design is given at the end of the book.
